Ethanol & Ice Cream | Renewable Fuels Now

Ethanol & Ice Cream

Yes, there are weighty reasons to promote renewable fuels like ethanol — including the demands of energy security, economic security and environmental stewardship.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun, too.

Just look at the town of Newton, Mississippi. Last week, the town opened Mississippi’s first E85 station. And it isn’t just another gas station that happens to sell E85. Instead, it is a combination fuel station and ice cream museum! Station owner Don Evans expects the E85 to sell for about a dime less than regular gasoline most of the time. But with all the ice cream nearby, that might not be the only draw.

Meanwhile, consumers in many other states around the country are seeing more and more E85 pumps. In fact, today there are more than 1,400 E85 stations nationwide, up from fewer than 200 in 2003.
