“Insourcing” Green Jobs
In the midst of daily doom‐and‐gloom reports about the state of the U.S. economy, a truly American “good news” story deserves a look. A new study by John Urbanchuk of LECG LLC shows that in 2007, the ethanol industry supported the creation of 238,541 jobs, including more than 46,000 in the manufacturing sector.
This is the story of an industry that is creating American jobs by using Yankee ingenuity to help solve the country’s pressing energy problems ‐‐ now, not at some point in the distant future. It is the story of an industry that is contributing to our energy security ‐‐ and thereby increasing our economic security ‐‐ right now. And it is the story of an American industry providing ‐‐ today ‐‐ renewable fuels that are cleaner and greener than the fossil fuels to which America has become hostage.
